To determine taxable income, 1040EZ users need to fill out lines 1 through 5 on the form. Once the calculations from those lines are completed, the resulting amount on line 6 is the filer's taxable income. The amount of tax to be paid, based on the tax table, is entered on line 10 of the form.
The 1040EZ income tax return can only be used by single filers or married couples with no dependents who are filing jointly. Taxpayers who use form 1040EZ cannot itemize deductions or claim any income adjustments or tax credits. They can claim the Earned Income Credit.
