Princess Auto sells garage and shop equipment in its Workshop store category; electric motors, gas engines and hydraulics in its Driveline shop; trailer upgrades and repair tools and parts in its Trailer shop; tarps, generators, fans and blankets in its All-Season shop; and hardware and electronics items in its Surplus shop. Princess Auto also markets overstock products from other retailers, which means the products available in its Surplus shop are constantly changing throughout the year.
Although Princess Auto is well-known for its large selection of vehicle repair and metal fabrication tools, the store also carries a wide array of HVAC products, security and recreational outdoor products, lawn and garden supplies and hydraulics products. The company retails simpler products for do-it-yourself homeowner projects and more advanced products for professional welders or mechanics.
Princess Auto Ltd., was founded as Princess Auto Wrecking company in 1933, but it transitioned into an auto parts retailer after its sale to Harvey Tallman in 1942. In 1977, as farm supply businesses in Canada began taking advantage of war surplus items, Princess Auto created a catalogue and began operating solely as a retailer. The company was very successful in these endeavors and was able to expand quickly across Canada. As of 2015, Princess Auto has 38 locations across the nation and maintains its original home office headquarters in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
