The TSX Venture Exchange, or TSX-V, is a Canadian public venture marketplace that focuses on emerging companies and is similar to the NASDAQ Small Cap exchange, according to About.com. The exchange was known as the Canadian Venture Exchange until it was purchased by TSX in 2001.
More than 2,000 companies are traded on the TSX-V, with a heavy emphasis on Canadian natural resources companies as of 2015, notes About.com. The TSX-V offers an index called the TSX Venture 50 that is made up of companies with traditionally strong performances. American investors can trade on the TSX-V using brokerage firms that offer foreign accounts, but they must first apply for a foreign tax credit or deduction through the IRS.
