TRICARE is available to people who have Medicare Part A and B. TRICARE pays after Medicare in the United States and pays first overseas, according to TRICARE.
There is no enrollment necessary to participate in TRICARE. It comes with Medicare if the patient pays Medicare part B premiums.
TRICARE is meant for uniformed service members, National Guard members, survivors and former spouses of military personnel and Medal of Honor recipients. Once enrolled, the patient's provider will make a claim with Medicare and Medicare pays its portion, sending the remaining balance to TRICARE. TRICARE decides what services it will pay for and pays the provider directly, leaving the patient responsible for any remaining balance.
