Full Answer

Tracking is available over the phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call 1-800-222-1811, as of December 2015. To track an item by text, send a message containing the tracking number to 2USPS (28777).

Tracking is automatically included with all USPS domestic products, with two exceptions: first class mail letters and commercial mail standard parcels do not include tracking. Customers can add tracking or destination confirmation to these products for a fee.

Tracking numbers are a series of eight to 20 numbers and letters. They can be found on mailing receipts, online label records and sales receipts.
