If you filed your return by mail, you can expect to see a status update approximately four weeks after the date you mailed your return, says the IRS. In order for you to retrieve a status update, you need to provide your Social Security number, filing status and the amount of your anticipated refund. The IRS also has an application for your mobile device called IRS2Go that allows you to see the status of your tax return.
The IRS updates the information available on the website once every 24 hours, says the IRS. If you expect a refund, the issue date is normally around 21 days after the IRS receives your return. If 21 days have passed and you do not yet have your refund, you can call the IRS for more information.
