Some of the top 500 companies of 2015 include Walmart, Apple, Kroger and Amazon. These companies all hold spots on the Fortune 500, which calculates total company revenues for the fiscal year.
Arkansas-based Walmart ranks at the top of the Fortune 500 list, as it did the previous year. With a network of over 4,000 stores in the United States alone, Walmart boasts some of the strongest distribution capabilities among major retailers, and it offers some of the most competitive prices due to its strong relationships with suppliers.
Known for its innovative products and serious brand loyalty, Apple ranks as another of the top Fortune 500 companies. The tech company’s products are both numerous and iconic, including the iPhone, iPad and MacBook. Next, developments such as the Apple Watch and Apple Pay have helped the company grow and remain relevant.
As the largest U.S. supermarket chain, Kroger has reported consistent sales growth for more than 45 quarters, with some analysts expecting it to surpass Whole Foods as the leading retailer of organic food. The company’s private label products also allow it to compete with the low prices of Walmart and Target.
Online retail giant Amazon continues to grow, expanding into the realms of cloud storage, video streaming and even experimental drone delivery. Amazon’s Prime service has also become a major source of revenue, with users paying more to receive faster deliveries.
