What Are the Technical Requirements to Enroll in an Online ServSafe Course?

An Intel Pentium III 1GHz or faster processor, an enabled sound card and speakers, a compatible keyboard and mouse, and at least 500 megabytes or more of RAM are some of the technical hardware requirements needed to enroll in an online ServSafe course. There is an automated system check at ServSafe.com on the Course Activities and Online Course Technical Requirements page.

Additional requirements and recommendations include high-speed Internet or a 56K modem with a minimum connection speed of 40 kbps and an 800-by-600 monitor. ServSafe.com suggests disabling pop-up blockers and enabling cookies. Internet Explorer 6.0, Google Chrome 3.0, Safari 5.1.2 and Firefox 2.0 or higher versions of each are the most compatible browsers.

The operating system should be at least Windows 2000, and the latest Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Reader are required. To complete the ServSafe 6th edition online course, an applicant's PC should have at least an Intel Pentium 4 1.60GHz or faster processor. Compatible browsers include Internet Explorer 8, Chrome 16, Firefox 6 or higher versions of each. For Macs, OS X 10.5 or higher, an Intel Processor, and Safari 5, Chrome 16 or Firefox 6 are best.

All systems must have 2 gigabytes of RAM or more, Adobe Flash Player 10.2 or higher, Adobe Reader, high-speed Internet of 512 kbps or faster and a screen resolution of at least 1024-by-768. Sound should also be enabled.
