The TD1 Personal Tax Credits Return is available to view online at CRA-ARC.gc.ca by clicking the menu icon at the top right of the home page, and then entering "TD1" into the search box, as indicated on the website. Select an option from the search results, and follow the prompts to view the desired version of the TD1 form.
Taxpayers use Form TD1 to assess how much tax to deduct from a person's employment, pension or other income, explains the Canada Revenue Agency. Taxpayers who should complete the form include those with new employers or payers and those who wish to claim the deduction for living in a prescribed zone. Individuals should also file the TD1 form to request a change in the amounts previously claimed or to increase the amount of tax deducted.
Taxpayers do not need to file new TD1 every year unless the provincial, territorial or federal personal tax credit amount changes, advises the Canada Revenue Agency. They have seven days from the date of change to complete a new TD1. In addition to the federal TD1, employees claiming more than the basic personal amount must also submit the TD1 that corresponds to the territory or province of employment. Pensioners claiming more than the basic personal amount must also submit the TD1 that corresponds to the territory or province of residence.
