Why Are Taxes Necessary?

Taxes are necessary to bring in revenue for local and state government services, according to the Internal Revenue Service. Taxes are designed to put money into programs that benefit the citizens.

The revenue generated from taxes helps fund law enforcement, schools, infrastructure and justice systems. It also helps create jobs, parks and recreational programs. Without taxes, funding these things would be nearly impossible. There are federal, state and local taxes, according to the United States Department of the Treasury. These can be broken down even further into categories such as personal property taxes, sale taxes, vendors taxes, estate taxes and gift taxes.
