Pieces of outdoor wooden furniture ought to be waterproofed to prevent rotting, warping and cracking. Water may also wash out the color of untreated wood, in addition to promoting the growth of mold, mildew and algae.
Some waterproof paint sealers create a waterproof barrier, and others penetrate more deeply into the wood. All these products carry a central water-repelling element, whether it is a natural oil, a polymer or a resin. Linseed oil and tung oil are both natural oils that provide a waterproof barrier, but some synthetic oils may work better.
The level of upkeep that is required with each oil varies. For example, penetrating oils need to be rubbed into the wood and reapplied approximately every six months, but they provide a more natural look than oils that may require less maintenance.
Make sure that the wood is clean before applying waterproof paint sealers. Sand down the wood to remove existing coats of paint or other coatings. The wood must be dry before the sealant is applied.Learn more about Customer Service
