Windstream reorganized in March 2015 as a limited liability company and spun off a significant amount of its assets into a separate real estate investment trust after its share price fell nearly 12 percent in a one-year period, explains Yahoo Finance. After paying the highest dividend of any company on the Standard & Poor's 500, Windstream's two newly formed companies cut their dividends to a combined amount 42 percent below previous payments. Standard & Poor's subsequently removed the company from its S&P 500 index. This process kick-started a collapse in the stock's value, with UBS analysts issuing sell ratings for the company, notes Benzinga. The analysts dropped their target price from $11.50 to $5 in light of the company's fall from a yearly high of nearly $19.

The company may also benefit from its investments in its advanced VDSL2+ Internet technology, which may dramatically increase the share of its subscribers with access to high-speed service.Learn more about Investing
