To activate a Green Dot Personalized Card, a cardholder needs to go to the official website, click Activate a Card and provide personal information. Cardholders may also call in to activate their cards by phone, says Green Dot.
Green Dot debit cards are prepaid cards without any line of credit. This means users are required to add money to their cards in order to use them to pay bills and purchase merchandise. Cardholders can make ATM withdrawals and use their cards at any store across the globe that accepts Visa or MasterCard debit cards.
Green Dot prepaid cards are more secure than gift cards, because individuals undergo an identity verification process before they receive the cards, which are personalized with their names, explains Green Dot. To obtain a card, a person must buy one at a participating retailer, such as Walgreens, 7-Eleven or CVS Pharmacy.
Consumers may also order a card online by clicking Get a Card on the official website. The online form requires the applicant’s full name, home address, contact details and Social Security number. When activating the card, a person has to provide the 16-digit temporary card number and three-digit security code. Anyone who wants to purchase a Green Dot card for a friend or relative may request an additional card for a fee.
