In 2008, SpaceX developed the Falcon 1, the first privately funded liquid-propelled rocket to reach orbit. In 2010, the company launched the Dragon spacecraft used to transport cargo to the Internationsl Space Station, or ISS, in tandem with the Falcon 9 rocket. The Dragon was the first privately funded spacecraft to be put into orbit and recovered, and also the first private spacecraft to reach the ISS.
As of 2015, SpaceX has a contract with NASA to regularly bring supplies to the ISS and has made several successful deliveries. They also contract with the United States military and a number of private companies. In June of 2015 the company suffered the high-profile engine failure of one of its Falcon 9 rockets during launch.
SpaceX has a number of vehicles in development, including a reusable Falcon 9, a new rocket called the Falcon Heavy, a propulsive lander called the DragonFly, and an as-of-yet unnamed super-heavy lift launch vehicle. The company performed its first test flight of a passenger spaceship in May of 2015.Learn more about Corporations
