A salary increment letter could be in the form of a memo that includes an overview of the employee's job duties, accomplishments over the previous year on the job and a list of reasons for the salary request. The employee should be specific about how he or she cut company costs, participated in professional development activities, helped other employees and provided the company with skills and expertise.

Some possible reasons to include for requesting the salary increase are having increased responsibilities that go beyond the employee's current job title and being paid less than the average for the industry. When asking for a salary increase, the employee should state that the amount is open to negotiation because this will make it more likely the employer will hear the employee's case.
