ShopSmart magazine ceased publication after its September 2015 issue, which reached subscribers in July. It is no longer possible to subscribe to the magazine, much less get a discount on it. The magazine was affiliated with Consumer Reports, which continues to publish its flagship magazine as of 2015. The best way to save on Consumer Reports magazine is to subscribe to it, saving 60 percent off of the newsstand price.Continue Reading
ShopSmart magazine focused on saving consumers money in every way imaginable prior to being discontinued. Shopping tips provided include how to outsmart pushy salespeople, finding the best coupons, finding clothes that actually fit and other money-saving advice. The magazine also detailed chemicals appearing uninvited in products ranging from soda to flooring, striving to keep the shopper safe as well as informed on the latest bargains.
As of 2015, subscribers to Consumer Reports receive two free gifts in addition to savings off of the newsstand price. The first is the "Annual Buyer's Guide," a magazine with over 1,500 honest reviews of brand-name products that retails for a little over $10. The second is "50 Steps to a Richer Retirement," roughly a $7 value. Alternatively, digital-only subscriptions may be purchased on a monthly basis for $7.
Third-party companies, such as DiscountMags.com or MagazineBargains.com, may claim to offer subscriptions cheaper than Consumer Reports does. However, these companies advertise savings off of the newsstand price, not the subscription price, and the actual price is the same or more than a subscription directly from the source. Therefore, customers generally do not save any money by going through them.Learn more about Coupons & Sales
