United Parcel Service distribution centers offer the full variety of the company's services, such as creating new shipments, tracking existing shipments, picking up packages and purchasing shipping materials. Each location is fully staffed to help customers fill out address labels for domestic and international shipments.
The UPS staff also provides additional services to assist customers with their shipments, such as address verification and advice on the proper packing materials. The distribution center's electronic tracking system includes all UPS shipments, so packages sent through the distribution center are also listed in the customer's MyUPS online order history. This saves time on future shipments because the customer can simply print a new shipping label with the previous address information.
Customers receiving shipments can elect to have them held at the UPS distribution center of their choice for pickup. Photo identification matching the name listed on the shipping label is required to release the package. UPS distribution centers also hold packages that UPS was unable to deliver to the customer's business or residence as scheduled. Customers should call ahead to verify that the package is available before visiting the facility. Packages returning from a UPS truck may not be reprocessed as a pickup until the next business day.
