Covered California offers health care coverage for individuals and families, as well as businesses, according to Covered California. This also includes pediatric dental, prescription coverage and special enrollment after the standard enrollment period.
There are a wide range of health plans from which to choose, including Medi-Cal for low-income families, says Covered California. There are special plans for pregnant women, families with children and people who are living on a limited income. Immigration health care options are also offered. There are four levels of coverage through Covered California, including bronze, silver, gold and platinum, with coverage and rates increasing with each level.
All health plans are required to have basic coverage for patients, notes Covered California. This includes basic health care, emergency services, prescription drug coverage and mental health care. All of these plans also include some level of pediatric dental coverage. Optional family dental plans are being introduced for the 2016 calendar year. This means that dental insurance for children is included in the price of all health plans purchased in the exchange. In addition, Covered California offers supplemental dental coverage for adults in the 2016 plan year through optional family dental plans.
Special enrollment allows some individuals and families to enroll in insurance or change their plan after the enrollment period, according to Covered California. This is available for families who adopt or have a new child, lose their health coverage through their job, have significant income changes, or young adults who turn 26 and are no longer on their parent's health care plan.
