The PPO of BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois, or BCBSIL, covers doctor visits, hospital and surgical care, diagnostic testing, emergency care and a number of other health-related services, according to its website. Female members of the PPO also have access to maternity care and screenings for cervical or breast cancer.
The BCBSIL PPO provides coverage for chiropractic services, well-child care, adult preventative care and private-duty nursing, notes the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. In some cases the PPO also covers rehabilitative services and occupational, physical and speech therapies. Members have access to hospices, extended-care facilities, and discount programs for vision and hearing aids.
As of 2015, the BCBSIL PPO provides patients with access to a network of over 200 hospitals and 23,000 specialists and doctors, states the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. Nationally, the PPO provides patients with access to more than 500,000 contracting physicians and over 5,000 hospitals.
When seeking medical care, members are able to choose their preferred hospital or physician, states the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. Members do not have to fill out claims. There are no payments required up front, and there is no balance billing. The PPO allows members to use non-network hospitals, but the benefit levels decrease.
