Anyone can sign up for a basic My Healthevet account, which allows users to create a personal health journal with information such as health history, medical events, allergies, medications and tests, explains the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. People can also use basic accounts to self-record family medical histories, health care providers, health insurance and personal health goals. Veterans and VA patients only can use advanced accounts to access information in their VA and Department of Defense records. They can also refill their VA prescriptions online through their My Healthevet accounts.
To upgrade to a My Healthevet premium account, veterans or VA patients must go through an authentication process online or in person at a VA medical facility or community outpatient clinic, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. A premium account gives users more access to their VA and Department of Defense health records, allows them to download a VA Continuity of Care Document, which summarizes their health information, and lets them use online secure messaging to correspond with their health care providers about medications, lab results and other health issues.Learn more about Health Insurance
