Manitoba Public Insurance, or MPI, offers a number of car insurance options, such as Basic Autopac, Optional Autopac and Special Risk Extension insurance. It is compulsory for residents of Manitoba to buy Basic Autopac insurance, according to MPI. This coverage protects drivers from personal injury expenses and third-party liability claims.
As of 2015, a number of Optional Autopacs improve the basic car insurance offered by MPI. Residents of Manitoba may reduce deductibles, increase third-party liability limits, buy excess value coverage or lay-up coverage, and obtain leased vehicle protection. Lay-up coverage allows car owners to save money on insurance if they do not use their cars for a few months. It protects against loss or damage but does not include road coverage, states MPI.
Reducing deductibles involves buying extra coverage from MPI. Options include collision, theft or attempted theft, glass replacement, animal collision, and vandalism coverage. Excess Value coverage is also available for more expensive cars, notes MPI.
Special Risk Extension coverage is great for large trucks or buses, explains MPI. It expands on basic insurance to include items such as cargo liability, general liability for truckers, property damage protection, and public liability claims. MPI also has a Fleet Safety Program that helps companies improve the safety awareness of their drivers.
