The best way to get a security guard card online is to complete a pre-licensing course, according to Practical Defense Systems Security. The security guard card class is an eight-hour course and can be completed in just a day. It is composed of two sections, which include Powers to Arrest and Weapons of Mass Destruction.
Online courses are available anywhere with an Internet connection. Once a candidate has finished the course and passed the written test, he has his fingerprints taken at a live scan location. The operator also collects the fees needed to pay for FBI checks. At this point, a student must submit his application to the California Department of Consumer Affairs and the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.
After receiving the guard card, the student is required to complete an additional 32 hours of education. The first 16 hours consist of four mandatory classes, which include Public Relations, Observation and Documentation, Communication and its Significance, and Liability and Legal Aspects. The remaining 16 hours are composed of electives, such as Officer Safety and Patrol Techniques among others.
For first-time users, the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services advises that applicants should have a Social Security number, a valid credit card to use for paying fees and an email address. Debit cards are not accepted when registering.
Online security guard card licensing is a joint project of the Statewide eGovernment Initiative Office and the Department of Consumer Affairs.
