The exam process requires applicants to take multiple online written tests. The first test consists of 100 questions on the English language, quantitative aptitude and reasoning ability. Applicants have one hour to complete this test. Qualified candidates who pass the preliminary exam move on to the final two tests, an objective test consisting of 200 questions on reasoning, data analysis and interpretation, English language and general awareness, marketing, and computers, and a descriptive test, which requires applicants to submit an essay.

After the examinations, the State Bank of India contacts qualified candidates for an interview. Only those applicants who are Indian nationals between the age of 21 and 45 with a professional degree from a recognized university or council may apply.
