As of 2015, Savers Thrift Store has more than 330 locations in the United States, Canada and Australia. This includes stores in Maryland, Texas, California, South Dakota and Missouri. The chain operates as Value Village in the United States and Canada, Village des Valeurs in Quebec and Savers in Australia.
The first Savers Thrift Store location opened in San Francisco, California, in 1954. The company operates using a for-profit business model. Savers purchases donated items from more than 120 local non-profit organizations, chooses high quality items and offers these items for sale in its retail stores. Unsold items are sent to developing countries or recycled.
