A business proposal is a written document that outlines a business idea in order to gain potential clients or customers or to entice an investor to make an investment in the business. A business proposal is also used when requesting a loan from a bank.
Generally, a business proposal contains a few different sections that outline the idea behind the business. The proposal may start with an executive summary, which is usually one paragraph that briefly explains the business idea. A short biography of executives involved in the business is placed in this section. The mission statement explains the necessity for the business and what the business is setting out to accomplish.
The product or service section of a business proposal focuses on the exact products or services the business plans to provide and how those products and services distinguish themselves from those already in the marketplace. A market analysis examines potential competition as well as giving detailed information regarding the growth and trends in the industry. Charts and supporting statistics are important in this section. The marketing and promotion section encompasses a big part of the plan, providing details regarding the actions the business intends to take to ensure its longevity.
