Sports retailer Scheels offers a variety of sales and promotions on its website, such as discounted shipping with a minimum purchase or fractional discounts on specific goods. The online sales and discounts change frequently, though company newsletters and social media profiles often advertise new promotions.
Scheels was founded in 1902 by Frederick A. Scheel. Scheel, a German immigrant, had begun a career in farming before deciding to change to selling goods and wares. He used the money from his first batch of crops, three acres of potatoes, to place a down payment on a local store in Sabin, Minnesota. While it began as a general goods and hardware store, by 1954, Scheels began carrying small amounts of sporting goods. Due to overwhelming interest from consumers, the store continued to add more athletic equipment to its inventory.
In 1989, the first Sheels All Sports store opened in Grand Forks, North Dakota. As of February 2015, Scheels owns and operates 24 stores in 10 states. As with other businesses, it utilizes social media to inform shoppers about sales and promotions in its various stores. Coupon codes, limited time sales and seasonal discounts are found on the company's Facebook page, along with other similar profiles.
