Anyone can create a basic account with My Healthevet and use the journals and other online tools to monitor their health information, explains the VA; however, only veterans and VA patients are able to open advanced accounts, which allow them to access their VA and Department of Defense records and refill prescriptions online. To receive advanced accounts, applicants select VA patient or veteran as their relationship with the VA and match their My Healthevet profile information with information in their military records.

To obtain a premium account, veterans must go through an authentication process either online or in person at a VA medical center or community outpatient clinic, according to the VA. A premium account allows veterans to view their VA health record, including admissions and discharges, current and future appointments, lab results, notes and reports. They can also save, download and print their VA and Department of Defense health and military service information. Additionally, they can create a Continuity of Care document, allowing them to share their patient information with health care providers.
