To enroll in Medicare's Blue Advantage PPO plan, the applicant must be a resident of Alabama, enrolled in Medicare Part B and entitled to Medicare Part A, as of March 2015. An application can be completed online, by phone, by mail or through a meeting with a Blue Cross representative.
Only those who are 65 or older, or have a disability, are eligible for Medicare. Medicare Blue Advantage is also called Medicare Part C, as it provides the coverage of Parts A and B along with additional benefits. Copays tend to be lower than the copays on original Medicare. The two plans available are Blue Advantage Complete and Blue Advantage Premium. The premium plan has more benefits, while the complete plan is more affordable.
Members of the Blue Advantage plan also receive membership into Silver Sneakers, a fitness program designed for seniors. The Silver Sneakers program provides members with a basic membership at fitness centers that are a part of the program. Members can also consult with a senior advisor and access a website with health and fitness information. The Blue Advantage Plan has a dedicated nurse line that members can call for medical advice 24 hours a day, seven days per week.
