Women with relatives who already joined the NSDAR only need to prove the connections with the relatives to substantiate their claims for membership. Others need to research their genealogy, beginning with their birth certificates and marriage certificates, along with the death certificates and obituaries of their parents and grandparents. As they search further back, they can use genealogy software and databases. If they find evidence of revolutionary ancestry, women can fill out an online Membership Interest Form, which details their personal contact information and the identities of their ancestors. A local NSDAR chapter contacts them, and volunteers help them with their continuing application process.
Once a chapter registrar approves a membership, the new member receives a printed or electronic copy of her verified application. Members can visit local chapters to assess their compatibility with the activities and schedule. Because NSDAR is primarily a service organization, members usually become involved in various types of community volunteer activities. NSDAR has chapters throughout the United States and in a number of other countries.Learn more about Business & Finance
