The real estate market is doing well, as reported by The New York Times newspaper in 2015. The market is supported by foreigners seeking vacations and retirement rentals, as well as hopeful homeowners looking for valuable properties at lower price points.
Panamanian real estate draws buyers from across the globe, as close as the United States and as far away as Russia. Although there is a shortage of rentals, a majority homes sell with price tags in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, with $200,000 properties on the lower end of the spectrum. Buyers can use these real estate investments to apply for residency. While the foreigners are welcome, they are not permitted to own land within roughly six miles of Costa Rican or Colombian borders.
