Biotechnology ETFs are investments in U.S.-listed stocks in the biotechnology industry. A majority of them take part in the use of biological processes such as genomics, DNA, molecular biology and genetic engineering. Usually, the biotechnology list uses a descending order based on total market capitalization. The ETFs are of numerous types; for instance, an inverse gold ETF may be listed in three broad categories: commodity, gold and inverse. As of July 31, 2015, the highest-listed biotechnology ETF is the Nasdaq Biotechnology, explains ETF Database.
ETF Database gives each of the U.S. stock exchange-traded products in a single category within the 70 best-fit ETF Database categories. Analysts assign each of the ETFs to only one of these categories. When there is a new ETF launched, analysts analyze it and determine the most appropriate category, states ETF Database. There is an annual review of the categories to improve on them or add more categories.Learn more about Investing
