The Puma knife company was established in 1769 by Johann Wilhelm Lauterjung. As of 2015, its home remains in Solingen, Germany, where many well-known German cutlers originated.
Experienced hunter Oswald von Frankenberg und Ludwigsdorf entered the company after World War II; he gave the company its famous policy of "no more household knives, but quality hunting, fishing and outdoor knives."
Since then, the Puma knife company has been a beacon for high-quality handmade knives. As of 2015, Puma knives are produced in the same way they were made 200 years ago. Puma has won numerous awards for its standards, and its products are sold worldwide.
