Before taking the computer-based test for PHR certification, you need to meet certain criteria, including experience and education. If you have a high school diploma and no college education, you need to have at least four years of professional-level human resources experience. If you have a bachelor’s degree, you only need to have one year of professional-level human resources experience. A master’s degree or higher allows you to take the test if you have just one year of experience working in human resources.
The certificate is valid for three years after you pass the test. You need to get recertified either by taking the exam again or with professional development while working in human resources. Credits are available for recertification based on the type of work experience you have.
