The El Dorado County Visitors Authority lists Apple Hill as a tourist attraction where visitors can see farms, vineyards, wineries and a micro brewery. Families and groups can hold picnics on the scenic countryside.
Apple Hill started in 1964 with just five ranches. By 2015, membership increased to over 50 to include fruit growers, bakeries, wineries, a spa and tree growers, according to its website. Member farms and orchards sell produce, such as apples, blueberries, strawberries, pears, fruit juices and cider, pumpkins, flowers and Christmas trees. The bakeshop sells pies and lunches.
Several members are open year round and are "You Pick Farms," where customers pick their own fruit or trees. Christmas tree varieties include Nordman fir, noble fir, silver tip and white fir. Among the attractions offered by members are nature trails, a hay maze, a pumpkin patch and a country store.
Seasonal events include a cookbook recipe contest, a wine tasting and pumpkin picking in the fall. Special Apple Hill events include Johnny Appleseed Day, Fun 4 Kids and Harvest Run.Learn more about Corporations
