Taxpayers who have a taxable income of $100,000 or less and have no dependents use Form 1040EZ, explains Intuit. It is a one-page form that has four small sections that require completion. The only types of income that taxpayes can list on Form 1040EZ are wages, tips, salaries, taxable interest of $1,500 or less and unemployment compensation, as of 2015. Form 1040EZ also allows the listing as income of Alaska permanent fund dividends. Income from other sources require the taxpayer to file Form 1040 or Form 1040A.
The work pay tax credit and the earned income credit are the only allowable tax credits for those filing Form 1040EZ, according to Intuit. Taxpayers cannot itemize deductions when using Form 1040EZ; they must take the standard deduction only. The only filing status options with the 1040EZ are single and married filing jointly. Taxpayers cannot file as head of household or qualifying widow(er) because both of those statuses require the taxpayer to claim at least one dependent, which is not allowed on the 1040EZ.Learn more about Taxes
