The United States Postal Service closes for Veterans Day on November 11. The Postal Service observes all federal holidays.
When the post office closes for a holiday, it does not just the retail part of the office. Mail is not delivered, transported or sent on these days. Rather than closing completely on holidays like Christmas Day and New Year's Day, the post office may close early at noon. Veterans Day is a holiday dedicated to the men and women who are serving or have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. The date of the holiday was chosen because an armistice ended fighting at the end of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day in the 11th month.
