As of 2015, users can apply for Medicare through the Social Security Administration website three months before age 65 if they currently have no Medicare coverage. To apply for Medicare, they cannot currently receive any type of Social Security payments or be ready to receive such payments.
To apply online, users must supply their name, birth date and place of birth. If users have Medicaid or health insurance, they must supply the start and end dates of the coverage. In the case of health insurance, the employer and policy holder names must also be provided.
Information about marriages, divorces, minor children and any military service is required. Users must also submit their employment information from the previous two years.
Users can start an application online and save it to finish later; they can also check the status of a completed application.
