Popular and well-regarded stock analysis reports are available through S&P Capital IQ, Argus Research, Morningstar and the Value Line Investment Survey, according to Kiplinger. So-called "sell side" research, which comes from investment banks, is not as reliable as these independent reports because investment bankers may favor their own clients.
S&P Capital IQ features reports on more than 1,600 stocks that are distributed to more than 20 million customers, as Kiplinger notes. Argus Research reports, which focus on 450 stocks, are particularly popular among discount brokers. Morningstar provides reports on more than 1,800 companies and boasts about the high returns on its recommended stocks. Value Line provides comprehensive information on more than 1,700 stocks in succinct one-page summaries.
