The recognition for a PMP certification is seen through the increased market and salary for a manager. There are several requirements that a person must meet prior to getting qualified for the certification. This includes a secondary education, 5 years of experience in project management, 7,500 hours of overseeing projects and 35 hours of education. Alternative requirements include a 4-year degree and 3 years of experience. A person who does not meet the requirements can opt for a CAPM.
A person can apply for the certification from any accredited institution. After earning the certification, it is important to note that it will only be valid for 3 years. A project manager is required to earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) after every 3 years to maintain the certification.
