Patients book appointments online with their registered provider, according to Patient Access. The patient signs in to his account, and then accesses the Book an Appointment section.
If the Book an Appointment link is not available, the patient needs to contact his medical provider to get access, notes Patient Access. It is possible that when requesting an appointment, a patient is not able to book the appointment he wants; this is due to appointments not being available for the date and time requested. For urgent appointments, patients are advised to contact their provider for more information.
The system only allows a certain number of appointments to be scheduled at a time, says Patient Access. The patient's medical provider sets the maximum number. If a nursing appointment is not available, it is due to the provider not giving this option to patients. Reasons for appointments are kept short; patients should come up with the briefest way to explain the reason for the appointment.
Some providers allow patients to request prescriptions on the website, explains Patient Access. This section is called Repeat Prescriptions and is meant to give the same prescription for patients with permission from their medical doctor. There is also a Messages section where patients send messages to their medical provider.
