The National Council of State Boards of Nursing provides test plans that can serve as reference material for aspiring nursing aides. The test plan for the National Council Licensure Examination for Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses is updated every three years and includes detailed content samples as well as samples of NCLEX items. Prometric, the official testing provider of 12 states in the United States, also provides sample written test questions and a clinical skills readiness exam. The site allows online users to assess their clinical knowledge by providing skills test readiness options.
As of 2015, the written exam drafted by the NNAAP includes 70 multiple-choice questions with 10 pre-test and 60 scored questions. The oral exam is comprised of 60 multiple-choice questions and 10 reading comprehension questions. The passing score is not disclosed to the public because each state has a different grading scale and passing standard for the CNA exam. The testing provider uses these standards to create an exam form that fairly tests each candidate's knowledge and competency.Learn more about Career Aspirations
