What Is a Parcel ID Number?
Last Updated Mar 25, 2020 8:20:11 PM ET
A parcel ID number is the identification code assigned to a property. The parcel ID number is used for record keeping and tax purposes in the property owner's county or geographic region.
Each county's taxing authority uses parcel ID numbers to track tax payments, identify property boundaries, and identify taxpayers and businesses registered by the parcel ID number. New parcel IDs are assigned when new construction arises; otherwise parcel IDs are constantly identified with the property, even when the owners change. The parcel ID number is also used to track property owners, property lines and easements when questions arise or in court cases.
