All Tennessee state certified pain management clinics must be privately-owned facilities that have a physician assistant, an advanced practice nurse, an osteopathic physician or a medical doctor on staff to assist dispensation of pain medication to patients. Patients may be prescribed barbiturates, benzodiazepine, opioids or carisoprodol, but not including suboxone, for more than 90 days within a 12-month period.
