The least expensive option for making payments to the North Texas Tollway Authority for its cashless electronic toll system is to install a TollTag transponder sticker on the windshield of a vehicle. Alternatively, drivers without TollTag stickers receive ZipCash invoices by mail. They can pay ZipCash bills by mail, by phone, online or in-person.
To obtain TollTag stickers, drivers can apply online at CSC.NTTA.com or in-person at NTTA customer service centers or other retailer outlets that sell TollTags. When they submit applications, drivers must open special accounts with cash, check or credit card, and to ensure the accounts remain open, they must keep positive balances in the accounts. Customers can monitor their account balances, update personal and financial information and print payment receipts online. Drivers with TollTag stickers pay at least 50 percent less for Texas highway tolls than drivers who pay via ZipCash, as of 2015.
High-speed cameras photograph license plates of drivers without TollTag stickers, and the NTTA sends monthly ZipCash bills for the tolls to the address of the vehicle's registered owner. If drivers do not pay ZipCash bills promptly, they are subject to punishments such as fines, being banned from toll roads, blocked vehicle registration and the impoundment of their vehicles.
