How Do You Open a Brokerage Account Through E*Trade?

To open a brokerage account through E*Trade, visit and click the Open An Account link located near the top right of the home screen. Select Brokerage Account under the Select Your Account heading on the Choose Your Account screen and click Continue.

Choose individual account, joint account or custodial account under the Please Select An Account Type heading on the Brokerage Account Application Web page. Under the Are You An Existing E*Trade Customer heading, select the applicable response.

Complete the required information under the Primary Account Holder Contact Information heading, including the full name and email address of the applicant. Click Continue.

Complete the required fields on the Personal Information screen, which differ based on the type of brokerage account. Examples of required information may include the home address, telephone number, tax identification number, employment information, and total of net worth and assets of the applicant or custodian. Click Continue.

Enter the requested financial information on the Account Setup Web page. Requested details may include credit card or checking account information. Click continue, confirm all details and submit the application.
