ING Direct became Capital One 360 in February 2013, but the process of opening an account did not change significantly. Consumers can visit the Capital One 360 website and click the "Open An Account" link, choose an account type, and provide necessary information to the bank.
ING Direct provided interest-bearing, online-only savings and checking accounts directly to consumers. Through Capital One 360, many of the same products are offered, including what are now called the 360 Saving and 360 Checking accounts. These accounts retain many of the same benefits as ING Direct's offerings, such as no fees and no savings account minimum. Capital One 360 also offers certificates of deposit and investment accounts.
To open a checking or savings account through Capital One 360, a customer must provide name, date of birth, social security number, address and phone number through the bank's secure web form. Customers must also provide a current checking account number and routing number to make an initial funds transfer to open the account. Since the bank does not have physical branch locations, all new account setups must be completed online.
Once account setup and initial funding are complete, customers can set up sign-on credentials and begin using Capital One 360 accounts.
