Under federal law, consumers can get a free credit report from each of the three credit bureaus once every 12 months through AnnualCreditReport.com. They complete a request form, choose which credit agency or agencies to provide the report, correctly answer three security questions and review the report or reports online.
Some sites, such as Credit Sesame, Credit Karma and Quizzle, offer free online credit reports as well, notes Simple Dollar. Each of these sites offers access to credit reports from its partner credit reporting agency: Equifax, Experian or TransUnion. Several sites, including the three credit bureaus, offer free trials for credit- monitoring services that provide access to credit reports online.
