Depending on the state, teenagers as young as 14 may legally work in gas stations. States such as Oregon, Indiana and Maine prohibit 14- and 15-year-olds from operating certain gas station equipment as of 2015.
In addition to restrictions on the tasks younger teens can perform at gas stations, many states set guidelines about the number of hours teenagers can work and when they can work. In Oregon, 14- and 15-year-olds are limited to three hours per day on school days and eight hours per day on weekends. In Maine, 14- and 15-year-olds may only work between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. during the school year and may not work during school hours. Older teens are subject to more lenient rules in many states.
