The PNC bank Visa gift card carries a fixed cash amount as loaded by the client. Owners can use the prepaid card for purchase payments in all locations that accept Visa debit cards. As with regular gift cards, the purchase amount is automatically deducted from the preloaded amount. The card is usable until the balance is zero or the card expires.
Users activate the card by calling the bank's customer service department. The required information is the 16 digit card number and the three digit code on the signature panel, after which the bank issues a PIN. The user can either use the card using a PIN or signature. PINs are only usable at merchant locations, while the signature is usable in all qualifying retailers and merchants. However, do note that the merchant cannot offer cash back for card value and the card is not usable for ATM withdrawals.
The purchaser selects the dollar amount before purchasing the card from the bank. The minimum amount is $25, as of 2015. However, a chief disadvantage associated with the PNC Gift card is the high fees. The purchase fee is $3.50, followed by an inactivity fee of $2.50 per month, as of 2015.Learn more about Personal Banking
