Obtain the electronic version of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form online at FAFSA.ed.gov, reports Federal Student Aid, an office of the U.S. Department of Education. Alternatively, download and print out paper copies of the form, or order copies by phone.
To access the electronic version of the FAFSA, visit FAFSA.ed.gov, click on Start a New FAFSA, and enter your Social Security number and birth date or FAFSA ID if you already have one, explains Federal Student Aid. The current FAFSA application is available each year by early January. Federal, state, career school and other aid programs have different deadlines for submitting aid applications as well as limited amounts of aid, so it is important to complete and submit the FAFSA as early as possible. The U.S. Department of Education encourages all students to fill out the FAFSA whether or not they think they qualify for aid.
To access a printable version of the FAFSA or a phone number to order a paper FAFSA, go to FAFSA.ed.gov, scroll down, and click on FAFSA Filing Options, according to Federal Student Aid. Students can print out a paper FAFSA and fill it in by hand or enter the data on the form and then print it.
